VO Audition - CMC (Chicago) - 8/30/07
Producers Session (Straight to Callbacks) - MONK - 8/30/07

The Seattle radio spot I auditioned for this morning went excellent! After 3 tries, I think I nailed it...:)...As for tomorrow's auditions, it's usually always cool to take my little one's to my VO Agents' office for auditions, so I don't usually worry about that. BUT, I just found out about the Producers Session 5 minutes ago, which, don't get me wrong, I'm completely amped about, but it's going to throw a monkey wrench in my whole day. I have no babysitter lined up AND it's roughly around the same time as a Dr's visit I have set up for one of my children. Oh whoa is me to have such troubles. I'm sure I'll work it out though, right?

Also tomorrow night is the dinner party my agent is hosting. Pray that my energy level stays strong all day! Puhhlease. I'll need it.

Luv Ya,

S.

VO Audition - CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL RADIO (Seattle) - 8/29/07

This is through my VO Manager. Sure hope my booking streak continues.

P.S. It's a pretty awkward feeling to have just been talking about Kate Hudson a few posts ago. Owen Wilson, and his family, are definitely in my prayers. By the way did I ever tell you guys about the time I met her brother, Oliver? I guess that's another post for another time.

BOOKED OTIS!

Yeah! I had a pretty good indication that I would book this job, but I made myself hold my tongue all weekend because, as we know, anything can happen in this industry. I say that I had a pretty good indication, because as I was shaking hands to leave the room, the CD pitched me for another (larger) role to the Director. Can you believe that? Turns out, the character was that of a male police officer. In the end, the director decided he wanted to keep the police officer a male. It's (most certainly) all good! I am amped to be working with the folks linked to this project, AND to be working at all! My shoot date is 9/10.

Want to guess what the role is for? Come on, take a wild guess. If you guessed a NURSE, you'd be correct!

Funny how that happens huh?

It's gettin' busy!...

Film Audition - OTIS - 8/22/07
Callback - OTIS - 8/24/07

Okay, so I'll start with TEMPTATION. Once I was in front of the camera, I had a blast! Unfortunately, I can't share how things went during the taping of the show (i.e. whether I won or lost), but I’d certainly recommend doing a game show if you get the chance. I’m actually surprised that I hadn’t tried out for one sooner than now.

The call time for the morning group of contestants was 7:30am. Once we all got signed in, filled out our paperwork, and went through the logistics of how to play the game, the producers split up the larger group into groups of three’s. Now, in our small holding rooms, we would wait. I was lucky because I ended up in a room with two really cool girls. One of which, was a young, and very funny, actress/writer, by the name of Carly Shepard. Carly, as it turns out, is Dax Shepard's baby sister and personal assistant. It was a trip, because once she revealed this tidbit of information, the other girl dove right in asking questions about Dax and Kate Hudson. Carly didn’t seem to mind though. I could tell she’d probably been grilled like that before, and knew how to handle it without saying too much. I must admit, it was fun to hear about "that side" of Hollywood for a change. The three of us talked about pretty much everything, until around 11:30am when the other girl and I were summoned into makeup.

At any rate, from what I could gathered while I was there, my episode should air on October 1 @ 2:30pm PST on FOX. One of the producers told me as I was leaving that they were still looking for folks to come out and audition for the show, so if any of you out there want to try out for it, just let me know, and I’ll forward the information to you.

So, in other news, I must admit it has been a long, long while since I felt like I nailed an audition, and doggone it, that is most certainly how I felt when I left the MOONLIGHT audition on Monday. Over the weekend, I researched and prepared for that role backwards and forwards, up and down, and side to side. Why haven’t I heard anything yet? Who knows, but I’m not going to dwell on it. I went in to the audition knowing that I was extremely prepared, and I gave them 110%. Now it’s up to them to figure out what to do with it...:)...Like I’ve noted in past posts, I’ve auditioned for the ladies over at FMW Casting many, many times before, for THE SHIELD. So I think they feel like I’m capable of delivering, now I just gotta wait and see how this plays out.

Okay, so now we’re at today. I went in and rocked the mess out of this 2 line Supporting Role for OTIS. So much so, I was invited to come back for a callback on Friday (8/24) afternoon with the Director. Sure, I can handle that!...:)...On my way out, I did a few drop offs.

In an effort to get back on the social scene a little bit, I’m gearing up for a dinner party one of my agent’s is having next week. Also, a fellow actress friend of mine (Ella Joyce) just sent me an e-mail about a one woman show she’s doing that I'm going to convince my husband to attend with me next month. I’m kind of a homebody these days, so it’s going to take a few extra coats of lipstick and fingernail polish for me to feel like I fit in. Wish me Luck!

Saturday (8/25) is my second one-on-one session with my VO Manager. I’m really eager to go work with her again. She pulls some great stuff out of me. I’ve almost completed the homework assignment she sent me home with last month, can’t wait to see what’s next.

I must say, I'm feeling like an actor these days!

10 Years and Counting...

VO Audition - NISSAN ALTIMA (2 spots) - 8/16/07

This went very well. I felt REALLY good about how the read went. So, as per usual, we'll see what happens. On the way home I saw Jaime Pressly in the car next to me. She is really beautiful, but she's so little. She looks like a teenager. I don't think anyone would believe she'd just had a baby, if they didn't know who she was.

I'm bummed because I missed out on my first audition from my new VO Manager...:(...It was for McDonalds. A little communication mishap. That won't happen again though, I can assure you of that! A sista has got to stay on top of things.

Sometime this month, back in 1997, (not sure of the day, since I was only 20 at the time, and didn't care to bother myself with the significance of remembering the day...:)...) I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my budding acting career. I've had more than enough ups and downs to mention right now, so I'll just say it's been a really, really fun ride! I hear it told, once you hit the 10 year mark, it's straight to the top from here, baby!...:)...

After seeing him on TV the other day, I decided to e-mail an old acting coach of mine: Bennet Guillory. I just wanted to say hey, and see how he's been. Hopefully he'll respond.

So tomorrow is me, being a contestant, smiling profusely. I didn't realize this was going to be a FOX Game Show. Wish me Luck!

Lastly, I have an episodic audition on Monday, 8/20. Yeah Baby!

Could the ascent be starting?!?

VO Audition - HP TELEVISION COMMERCIAL - 8/15/07

This went very well. They were looking for a Serena Williams sound-a-like to do some looping for her new commercial. It works this Friday, 8/17, coincidentally enough, the same day I'm taping TEMPTATION.

We'll see what happens. I'd love to have the "problem" of having to juggle my schedule!...:)...

VO Audition - CAPITAL ONE - 8/10/07

Monday, August 06, 2007

I BOOKED Temptation!

That's what I'm talking about!...:)...Let the games begin. I tape on Friday, 8/17.

Last Saturday (7/28) I had a huge wake up call in regards to the VO world. I had my first "monthly meeting" with my new VO manager. And oh my goodness, I learned SO MUCH during the time I spent with her. I was completely amazed at what my voice was able to do. I NEVER realized just how much defining VO copy could enhance a read. I'm amped because she sent me off with quite a large homework assignment for next month. I'm really hoping these new discoveries will translate into bookings!

Last week I dropped off some h/r's to my agent, and we briefly discussed the possibility of me getting new photography done. I'm having a slight problem though. Lately, I've been really struggling with defining who I am as a person/actor, and deciding how I want people to perceive me. I want that decision to play a large part of my new shoot. Actually, it is part of my VO assignment as well. So, I have a lot of work ahead of me.

Sent off my paperwork to my new agent in New Mexico the other day. The NM Film Commission just announced 4 new projects are starting up there this month, including a new television series. I think that makes 10 new projects there this summer.

Lastly, I just found out I won a free copy of the ROSS REPORTS. Cool! Maybe now I'll get around to doing that Soaps Mailing I'd mentioned a while back.

As usual, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers!

Love ya,

S.

Happy Birthday Taya-Morgan!

My oldest turns 5 today!

Man, I really feel like I've accomplished something. I remember vividly when she was one week old, and my mom was packing up to return to Atlanta. I was begging her to stay just a little longer, and Todd was sweating some serious bullets...:)...But here we are, 5 years later, and everybody's fine!

I'm sure the best is yet to come!...:)...
