Short and (Nutra) Sweet...

Something told me that these last couple of weeks would be insane! I have had so much going on, I’ve barely been able to catch my breath.

  • Okay, so I booked my fourth episode of GREY’S ANATOMY! YEAH! I shot it last Wednesday (1/24). Once again, everything was awesome. Everyone was so nice, and I really don’t understand all the drama the media keeps attributing to the T.R. and Isaiah story, because I saw none of that on the set. I saw T.R. and he seemed fine. He even asked me how my baby was doing. This time, my scene was with Eric aka Dr. McSteamy (who is so very nice to look at by the way) and Katie (as she is affectionately called on the set). The episode will air Thursday (2/15). By the way, did you notice how I’m calling them all by their first names?...:)...
  • My baby girl had her first audition last Thursday (1/25) it was a commercial for HIGHMARK. The callbacks are later this week, hopefully she'll get one.
  • Finally got my guides back from the printer. YEAH! They’ll be in the mail later this week.
  • I had a VO AUDITION yesterday (1/29) for the AMERICAN LEGACY FOUNDATION. It went very, very well. Once again, we’ll see if anything comes of it. I have another one on Thursday (2/1). I need to book one of these bad boys soon!
  • I got 2 hits from local managers who’d like to meet with me. Cool! Finally! I have one meeting this Saturday (2/3) and the other, next Monday (2/5). Please pray that one of them is who I’ve been looking for.
  • CUTE STORY: My mom lives in this little town in AL., (that I lived in briefly as a child) and of course she’s been going around town telling everyone her baby (a former resident) is on GREY’S ANATOMY! (Thanks for the publicity Mom!...:)…) As a result, one of her friends, who works for the local newspaper, decided to run an excerpt in last week’s paper talking about little ‘ol me. Very nice!...I will post the excerpt when my mom sends it to me.
  • My last day at the day job is tomorrow! I want to say that I am 100% excited, but truthfully, I am feeling a thousand different things right now. Keep praying for me...

Peace.

New Year’s Spark!

Got a lot to report this post...

Breaking News/Major Announcement! It’s in the record books...on Thursday (1/18), I gave my day job my resignation letter. After 7½ years I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on. With a husband and two small children at home, I’m still debating about whether or not it was a good idea. I’m suffering from anxiety big time, but I can tell you one thing, I truly believe that God is sending me signs that I’m headed in the right direction, because the VERY NEXT DAY (1/19) the folks over at GREY’S ANATOMY tracked me down and pinned me for Wednesday (1/24). Now if that’s not a sign/blessing, then I don’t know what is! Keep your fingers crossed that it becomes a booking. I should hear something tomorrow.

With my days now free, I’m really looking forward to spending some quality time with my family, and just getting back to the things that truly make me happy.

On Friday afternoon, I swung by my daughter’s agent’s office to drop off her new pictures, and to chat with her agent for a few minutes. It ended up being very productive. I’m excited to see if she starts getting my baby out there!

After several samples (because I want it to be perfect!) my guide will finally be printed and shipped out this weekend. Hopefully it will bring even more opportunities for my daughter, myself, and most importantly for those who paid me to do right by them.

In other news, the Golden Globes were entertaining. I am SO happy that DREAMGIRLS won three Golden Globes (especially Eddie Murphy...:)...), and after hearing Sacha Baron Cohen’s acceptance speech, I HAVE to see his BORAT movie. That guy is hilarious.

Speaking of movies, all the free screenings will wrap up this week with the SAG Awards this coming weekend…:(.... Darn, my inbox is full of invites, but I can’t go! I’m going to be putting in some extra hours finishing up at my day job, my last day is 1/31.

Still haven’t seen BROOKLYN'S BRIDGE TO JORDAN? I discovered that not only is it still playing on the Logo channel, you can also view it on their website. It doesn’t have the most views, but it does have the #1 ranking. Cool! I just sent the director an e-mail asking her to let me know when she starts on the feature! I’d love to reprise my role…:)…

Speaking of features, a friend of mine from church has a script in development (I’m currently reading it), and he has vowed that I’ll be able to read for it when they start casting. So, hopefully I can add a film to my resume this year.

I’m making plans to hit up Albuquerque in late February, early March. With all the new films rolling through the state, and two series currently in production, I’m hoping to audition a lot. If not, no sweat, I'll get some much needed down time, and maybe do some work on my house there.

I’ve been feverishly looking for an agent and/or manager (with the exception of doing a mass mailing/I hate those things!) to no avail. I’ve been presented with a couple of work around options that I'm looking into. I need to be auditioning this season!...

Finally got the full afro back! New pictures coming soon...:)...

HEROES starts again tomorrow. YES! Can't wait. That's another goal of mine this year. To get on that show!

Last, but most certainly not least, here is the BSW article I was a part of earlier this month (Page 1/ Page 2).

Whew...

Happy New Year Everyone!

Whew! I've made it through another year. Thank you Lord! I am so very grateful. For a minute there, I didn’t think I was going to make it in one piece.

So, okay, it’s been a minute since I’ve written. Where should I begin?

Ah, yes. I had my first audition of the year on Wednesday (1/3), the very same day my little mama turned 7 months old, it was a VO for HELSBERG DIAMONDS. It went well.

Speaking of my little mama, she, by the way, has yet to have her first audition. Hmmmm, this is already getting old. Look at this face. Doesn’t it belong on a package of diapers or a jar of baby food?!?...:)...At any rate, I’ve learned my lesson. Her “agent” will get this new photo of her in about a week or so. I’ll wait a month. If things remain the same, I will be moving on. Case closed. End of story.

In other news, and to keep this post a reasonable size (because you know how I can get...:)...) here are “highlights” of the last couple of weeks.

  • I saw DREAMGIRLS twice over the holidays. Loved it! And, although I think the entire cast seriously did their thang, all my love goes to Eddie Murphy. I absolutely loved his performance!
  • The BSW article I talked to you guys about in my last post hit stands yesterday (1/4). Still haven’t seen it yet, so I don’t know which of my comments made it in. They’re sending me a copy. I will scan and post it once I get it.
  • Remember the electronic agent/manager search thing I told ya’ll I was a part of? Well, I got a bite from an agent in IL that wants to represent me here...hmmm. I talked to them on the phone, but I don’t think it’s going to be in my best interest. I’m still “posted” through the end of the month, so hopefully someone locally will hit me up. We’ll see.
  • I finished my guide, and I am SO VERY PROUD of my first publication!...:)...It’s at the printers as I type. I will post samples of it on the website once I get it back. www.newmexicoactorsguide.com.
  • Reruns of GREY’S ANATOMY start this month on Lifetime. Check your local listings! With the new cable pay scale, I hope to start seeing some nice surprises soon, if you know what I mean...:)...
  • My sister in AZ called me the other day to tell me that BROOKLYN'S BRIDGE TO JORDAN was playing on the Logo channel again. Cool! I didn’t even know it was still airing.
  • I’m in the process of filling out my paperwork for the Florida Thespian Festival in April. By the way, thanks to those of you who responded with suggestions for my workshop.
  • Lastly, I have a “major” announcement to make, but I want to wait a couple more weeks before I spill the beans. Keep your fingers crossed, and pray for me.

Thanks for checking in...:)...

Till next time,

Shenita.
