Short Film Audition - 10/28/05 - LET'S TALK

I'm a Marketing Machine!...

Well, I finished off this past week on a high note! Although production over at GREY'S ANATOMY told me that I could not get footage of my cut scene, and all traces of me having even done the role disappeared from every website on the WWW, I still had some good happenings occur in the pursuit of my dream last week.

I didn't make it to the NORTH COUNTRY screening, but on Thursday morning (10/21), I woke up bright and early to go tape my OHIO LEARNING NETWORK radio spot in Studio City. It went wonderfully, in and out in 30 minutes!...The producer has already e-mailed me a copy of the finished product, and it's awesome. It will definitely be on my upcoming, revamped VO Reel. (Look out for that on my website in Nov/Dec 05.)

Later that afternoon, I went over to CINEVATIVE in West Hollywood and got my Demo Reel redone. Mark advised me against stock piling my demo with everything I've ever done, so we settled on a few "powerful" clips, that will hopefully get the job done for me. I have added my Demo Reel to my website. Have a look, and let me know what you think.

Cut to this week: I want to be prepared when I visit Actors Access and LA Casting, so I decided that in addition to my clips, I will be taking over a batch of new headshots to post. Yes, you've guessed it. I picked my own photos. I've picked my own photos for most of the headshots I've ever used anyway, so I figure, why stop now? They all seem to have worked for me, so I will just use my choices until my agents get back to me. (Besides, when I first moved to L.A. back in '97 I worked in two different talent agencies for over a year as a Commercial Agent Assistant AND as a Commercial Agent, so I think I have somewhat of an eye for picking a good headshot.) I sent several requests over to the photographer for a little air brushing on Sunday, and as soon as I get those back, off to conquer Hollywood I shall go!...:)...

I subscribed to IMDB PRO yesterday, I'm still trying to figure out if that was a good idea. I guess only time will tell. Now that I think about it, I need to update my photography on there as well. Ahh, the money it takes to be an actor!...I swear my husband totally freaks out sometimes...:)...

Still no passport. That will have to be pushed back for another week or two, I have bigger fish to fry.

My definitive goal is to have all of my ducks in a row before Pilot Season...

2.5 Months and Counting...

On the Cutting Room Floor...

Awww man, I wound up on the cutting room floor! For those of you who made an attempt to watch me last night on GREY'S ANATOMY, thanks so much for your support, but my scene was cut from the episode...Bummer. I sort of had an inkling early Sunday evening when none of my family on the East Coast called to congratulate me. Oh well, I guess, there's always a first time for everything. I'm just hoping that my CD mailing wasn't done in vain. "One call, that's all I'm asking for!...:)..."

I'm going to call the production office to find out if I can at least get the footage for my reel. It's very unlikely, but you never know. They're pretty friendly people over there, so they may hook a sista up. I'm going this Thursday (10/20) to get my new Demo Reel done, so even if I do get the cut footage from this past Sunday, it won't make it onto this reel. Man, I can't wait to finally get my reel done, and get my clips up! Hopefully this will spike my on camera audition ratio, it's been pretty sad lately.

Still no word from my agents about my new pictures. Oh well, I'm threw with that battle for now.

The braids are back in. I endured 12 1/2 hours this time.

Tomorrow night (10/19) I'm going to a screening of NORTH COUNTRY in which Charlize Theron and Nick Caro are going to be speaking afterward. I think it's going to be a great flick, so I'm hyped! I went to a Networking Brunch several years ago and Charlize Theron was the guest speaker. She was so cool and laid back, hopefully Hollywood has done little to change her since then.

On Thursday (10/20) I'm also recording the VO I booked last week. Please pray that it goes well for me. I'd really like to get in good with this recording studio so they'll continue to bring me back for other stuff.

Plan of action update:

  • Braids are in!
  • Photography done! Still getting through selection and retouching process.
  • Demo Reel will be done this week. I will get hard copies, and post a clip on Actors Access & LA Casting. Voice over reel is still in the pipeline.
  • I'm planning on applying for my passport next week.
  • Still exercising, no significant weight loss though. However, I think I know why...:)...
  • Bio is completed!
  • Still working on the press kit. (Waiting for hard copy headshot to go with the book I'll be featured in. Once that's done, I will put together all the pieces for my press kit.)

One Luv...

YES! A BOOKING!...

BOOKING! Aren’t those always nice to get?!? Even better when you don’t have to audition for it! My VO Agent called me yesterday to tell me that I booked a VO job that I didn’t even audition for. It is for an OHIO based company, and will record later this month. I’m hyped!

This past Wednesday night, I went to a screening of the film HUSTLE & FLOW...(Remember the movie I raved about a couple of months ago?) Yep, that one. Well, this screening was followed by a Q&A with none other than, you guessed it, Terrance Howard. The star of the movie! The actor whose performances we've all come to love and admire. (i.e. HUSTLE & FLOW, LACKAWANNA BLUES, CRASH, FOUR BROTHERS, etc.) I wanted to go check the film out again, simply because I was interested in hearing what Mr. Howard had to say about his experiences during the filming of it. (One of the coolest things he shared was that it was shot in just 24 days!)

The event ended up being small and quaint, so there was certainly opportunity for anyone who wanted to approach him after the Q&A. I didn’t, however. I can’t decide if I’m a chicken about these kinds of things, or just completely over the whole celebrity appeal. I was more intrigued by the people who approached him. As everyone glared at him thinking of something witty to say, a woman confessed that she was his biggest fan (and stalker), held him hostage for about 5 minutes, and gave him her script. Another kissed him. He was really cool about the whole thing, cooler than some celebs I’ve seen.

I picked up my business cards yesterday. Just in time to get my CD mailing completed today. (107 is the magic number! Lord, all I’m asking for is one call. PUUUHLEEEASE!) It took hours for my friend and I to complete, but it’s done now and ready to go. Whew! I’ll be mailing them off early next week.

Next thing on the agenda is a mass e-mail announcing my GREY’S ANATOMY appearance, and another 14 hours dedicated to getting my braids put in again. Lucky, lucky me!...:)…

VO Audition - 10/6/05 - PUBLIX SUPERMARKETS
