Catch me on BRINGING HOME BABY!

Remember this from earlier in the year? Well, it will finally air on 9/13.

I'm not sure if my family and I ended up on the cutting room floor, but even if we did, you should it watch anyway, because my in-laws, nephew, and cute baby niece will certainly be on it!...:)...

Round and Round I go.

The audition went really well yesterday! I’m really hoping I can be a part of the Showcase. It could open up A LOT of doors for me. I’m not going to dwell on it though. On to the next!

Is it just me, or does it seem like there is so much craziness going on in the world lately? Death. Deceit. Destruction. I guess it could just be that the news is going crazy covering this stuff. All I know is, I’m finding myself becoming really emotional about all of it. It’s really making me reflect on my life. (As I’m sure you can see by my blog posts.) I don’t think its post partum or anything like that. I just think that being home these days, I’ve had a lot of time to get a clear view (if you can call the news a clear view) of everything that’s going on in the world. Every day headlines read how “One, two, or three soldiers were killed in Iraq today,” or how “Katrina evacuees are still displaced.”

I lost another aunt over the summer, this time on my side of the family, and with that loss, another birth (a friend a mine had a baby a month after I did), and more births on the horizon, I’ve been really thinking about the delicate balance of life, and believe me, that trumps acting any day!

With that said, although I haven’t had much luck with the auditions as of late, I realized that I have a lot to be thankful for in other areas of my life. I have my health. I have a loving, supportive family. I have many friends who stand by and support me. And I have a strong drive to achieve the goals that I’ve set for myself.

In pursuit of a couple of those goals, I’ve gotten a lot accomplished in the last couple of weeks. I think I just might be proud of myself...:)...

  • I secured an agent for my daughter.
  • I applied for, and already received, a work permit for her. (I’m shocked that this only took a week. It can take up to four!)
  • I spoke with both of my on-camera agents, updating them on what I’m up to, AND I got updates from both of them. (It doesn’t look like MOTEL MAN is a go. Never heard anything.)
  • I sent a batch of my new (old) headshots to each of them.
  • I’ve continued to submit myself like crazy on projects I’ve come across that I’m right for. (i.e. E! and ABC Showcase.)
  • I secured two impromptu babysitters for my daughter should I need one for last minute auditions.
  • I’ve started work (research/website/marketing/etc.) for a new idea I have in mind for the New Mexico acting market. (More information coming soon.)
  • I sent “Congrats on the Nominations” cards to some of the folks over at GREY'S ANATOMY. (I’m so very glad I didn’t wait until after the Emmy’s, because I wouldn't have been able to send anything. I’m sure there are some upset folks over there. I know I was mad!)

In other GREY'S ANATOMY news, Season 2 will be on DVD next month, AND the show will start airing on Lifetime in early 2007! Cool.

On the agenda for the rest of the week:

  • I’m supposed to be going by my agent’s office sometime this week so that they can meet my baby.
  • I need to go to the SAG/AFTRA CU to get her a Coogan Account. (Anyone have an account over there? How’s their customer service, fees, etc.?)
  • Still need to get those doggone postcards printed up.
  • Complete work on my new website for the New Mexico acting market.
  • An actor friend of mine is having a Labor Day Weekend birthday bash, with many events scheduled over the course of the weekend. So, I’m going to TRY to muster up enough energy to attend at least one of them. Maybe Burke Williams or Crustacean’s. I’m in real need of some relaxation and good fun!
  • The SAG Labor Day Picnic is also a maybe with the family.

Stay well, and keep it modest this weekend!

TV Audition - 8/29/06 - ABC TALENT SHOWCASE

TV Audition - 8/24/06 - E! NETWORK "CELEBRITIES"

This was for one of those shows on E!, that are simliar to the I LOVE shows on VH1. It came from a self submission, and it had to of been THE MOST fun I've ever had on an audition! It was an opportunity for me to just be myself, which was cool. The notice called for comedians and/or "recognizable talent." Neither of which am I, but I decided to submit anyway. I love those shows. Lo and behold, I was called in. Scary part was, I found out about the audition 1.5 hours before my audition time!

Somehow, someway, I made it on time. Once in front of the camera, the CD threw out "celebrity beefs," (i.e. Paris vs. Nicole, Star vs. Rosie, Britney vs. the Media) and all I had to do was give my opinion. I made him laugh, so that's what counts right? To top it off, I even got free parking because the ticket machine wasn't working when I pulled into the parking garage!

This job is no pay, but the self publicity would certainly be payment enough. It tapes next week, so cross those fingers, toes, and eyes for me...:)...

P.S. One thing I really have to keep in mind if I book, is to remember to choose my words carefully. I'd hate for anything I say to come back to haunt me later!

RECYCLE RANCH Details!

As promised, I’ll elaborate on the short film RECYCLE RANCH I did while in Albuquerque a few weeks back. As I explained in earlier posts, RECYCLE RANCH was part of the 48 Hour Film Project. The premise is that teams of individuals come together to compete in a competition in which they write, film, and edit a short film within a 48 period of time. Sound impossible? Believe me, it’s not, as I would come to learn.

At the start of the clock that Friday evening, I got a call, and then an e-mail with my call time and location info for the following morning. The genre had been drawn, and the script was underway. Call time: 7am. My little mama decided she didn’t want to sleep that night, so I showed up the next morning with about 2 hours of sleep under my belt. First location was the seedy Motel. Once there, I stole away for a few minutes so that I could read the script. Let’s see if I can explain the plot without giving too much away: A young woman is kidnapped on the way to her wedding and taken to a mysterious Ranch. Once there, she discovers that there is much more about this Ranch than meets the eye. At the climax of the plot, she will receive a surprise by way of her best friend/maid of honor.

I played the part of the best friend/maid of honor.

We shot what we needed at the Motel, and then headed out to the second location, the Hostel. At the end of the day I was asked to leave Sunday open should they need to do pick up shots.

Fast forward to Tuesday night, which was the screening of the film, it was awesome. I think out of all the films I saw, ours was the best overall. The producer showed up with a box of t-shirts for the cast and crew. I was blown away to see, starring Shenita Moore, written in the credits box. (Wow, really?) Cool, thanks for the recognition Mike! That made me feel really, really special. During the Q&A afterward, Mike also had me stand. I did. I even waved to the crowd...:)...(Gee, I can get used to this!) Leaving the screening, I thanked everyone for the opportunity, and headed home, not really expecting to hear from anyone again.

Then on Friday afternoon, I got a call from Kelli, one of the women on the production team, asking if I’d like to join her and Rosa, the director, on the radio the following day. (YES, of course I would!) We were interviewed on KUNM 89.9, a local Albuquerque radio station. The host asked us all sorts of questions about the film and our individual careers. She even brought up my work on GREY'S ANATOMY!

The following Monday I was asked to meet the lead actress in a park, to take some still photography that would eventually be inserted into the film.

So, as you can see, this project really kept me busy while I was in New Mexico. Had I not of had the opportunity to be a part of it, I’m sure I would have come back home feeling like I didn’t accomplish much (as far as acting is concerned) while there.

I’m extremely happy I did it.

Catch me on GREY'S ANATOMY tonight!

Yes, finally! Maybe there is hope. Is it me, or does stuff like this always happen when you're feeling down and out? I know who to thank.

If you tune in, be sure to tune in on time, I'm in the first scene.

Is the grass greener?

After gaining almost 50 lbs while being pregnant with my baby, I’m happy to say that I have about 8 more lbs to go til I’m back at my pre-pregnancy weight. Not sure how much of an accomplishment that is actually, since I still had about 25lbs left from the birth of my 4 year old. Oh well, I’m taking it all in stride. Women’s bodies are meant to change when they have children, right? That is, unless you’re a celebrity. Put it this way, until I can afford to hire Gunnar Peterson, I’ll be walking and waiting until I can return to the gym.

This week has been moving along quite nicely, the VO audition I had on Tuesday went great, and I got my daughter’s submission out on Monday as I’d hoped to. One thing I haven’t done yet is send out my postcards. Let me explain, I almost choked on my Wrigley’s Gum when Kinko’s told me how much they wanted to charge me to have 20 of them printed up. Needless to say, I will be scraping up my pennies, and hopefully, heading up to Reproductions sometime within the next week or so. I have to get those darn things out!

I’m still waiting to hear something from my New Mexico agent. I was told by the CD when I was there that production on MOTEL MAN would start yesterday. There's still hope though, it's a 6 part miniseries, so I'm certain they'll be filming for a while. Send out some positive vibes for me, I could really use a booking right now.

Speaking of New Mexico, I received my Film NM Directory for 2006 on Tuesday, which lists EVERYONE of interest in New Mexico. I only had time to skim through its 344 pages, but as I get more time, I intend to pull out the people of interest to me and contact them with my info.

Back on the home front, I sent my L.A. agent yet another e-mail yesterday morning asking for some suggestions on what I can be doing to garner more TV and commercial auditions, preferably something that costs little or no money. I haven’t been out with her since ER back in March. Five months ago! I mean I know I just had a baby at the beginning of June, but come on now, it’s the middle of August, and my Maternity Leave will be over soon. I did put some of my unbraided shots in the mail to them yesterday. Maybe that will help. Revisiting the old headshot might spark some interest.

NEWS FLASH: To be painfully honest, at this point, I don’t even think I care anymore. I’m on the fence about everything. I’m just getting so frustrated with this business. The thing is, I'll be 30 this year, I moved here when I was 20, and my life is so different now. I'm married, I have two kids, and it hurts me to think about the amount of time and money I spend focused on a dream that may never, ever come true. Don’t get me wrong I love acting, and my goal has never been to become a superstar. I just wanted to be able to say to people “Yes, I’m a professional actor. I act for a living.” But now, instead of spending a full Saturday at home working on a postcard (that will probably end up in the trash can anyway), I’d rather be taking my girls to the park, or catching a movie with my husband. I guess I’m just burnt out on the whole idea of it all. *sigh* Maybe I just need a break for a while. The sky was so clear back in New Mexico.

VO Audition - 8/15/06 (rescheduled) - HOOVER'S

Work, work, and more work.

It took me all day today, but I've finally finished working on the design of my new postcard. Now all I need to do is get them printed, labeled, stamped, and ready to be mailed on Monday. I'm so behind in getting this done. I wanted to get it done when I first got home, but I just HAVE NOT found the time. Too many things going on. I think I'm going to send out a few at a time. Maybe about 25 to start with, targeting just the shows I REALLY want to be on.

I also worked on a submission packet for my baby today. Yes! My husband and I have finally decided to go forward with getting her started in the business. I've already scored a really good referral for CESD, so hopefully I can get her in over there. We'll see. Her submission will go out on Monday as well. I talked to my 4 year old about giving the business a try again, but she still has cold feet. It's all good though. I am, by no means, an over aggresive stage mom, so if she's not feeling acting then so be it. I'll support whatever it is that makes her happy, and right now that's SpongeBob and swim class!

Have a good one.

Just found out...

VO Audition - 8/8/06 - AT&T

...that I didn't get PIG'S EAR. It's all good though, the audition was a lot of fun. On to the next one. (Hopefully one of my girls scooped up the role!)

Yesterday and today I talked with my boss, and we hammered out my new return date of 9/18. Coolio!

Lastly, I finally paid my union dues. At this point, I feel like I have more money going out than I do coming in. It's definitely time to BOOK again!

I'm outtie.

63 days and Counting and I Saw.

I had to do some adjusting with my audition time on Friday, because I had to take my daughter in for her 2 month check up at the same time they had me scheduled to come in and read. Yes, I said 2 months, can you believe it? I CAN NOT believe it's already been 9 weeks since I gave birth to her. I was really sad on Friday afternoon because I realized it's getting closer and closer for me to have to return to work, BUT as I was looking through my mail that'd piled up while I was gone, I came across a letter from the state saying I was eligible to apply for a program that would allow me an additional 6 weeks off, with pay. Thank you, Jesus! I would just have to get the all clear from my employer. I left a message for my boss today, and my application will be in the mail first thing tomorrow morning. If granted, I won't have to return to work until 9/12. Hallelujah!

As for the audition, I felt like it went really well. I think I did a great job considering the short amount of time I had to prepare for it. They even had me rework it, and come back in a few minutes later, which I saw as being a very good thing! While there, I ran into my friend Nadege Auguste, who was auditioning for the same role. It was really good to see her. I also saw some other girls I knew, on the schedule to come in a read for the role. (Frances Uku being one of them.) Good Luck girls!
While in NM, I took out my latest round of braids, so my real hair was screaming for a little TLC. Bright and early yesterday morning, I left the girls to their father, and hit the salon for a few hours. Press, Curl, and Trim! I love it! It looks really, really nice. I'm still growing out the fro, but it's incognito. That is, until I'm ready to unleash it on the world...:)...

I saw Keesha Sharp, and (I'm assuming) her family, at church this morning. Not sure if she attends my church regularly since this is the first time I've ever seen her there. (We're not a very big congregation, but we do have the occasional celebrity come through from time to time.) I was a tad star struck when I saw her, only because my daughter and I LOVE EVERYBODY HATES CHRIS. All the actors on that show are so exceptional. (Meaning you Tasia!) As service was coming to a close, I was sitting there thinking of what I could possibly say to her. I casually glanced in her direction, and DOGGONE IT, she was gone! I'm sure when you are a "recognizable face," as with her case, you have to learn to leave a little early, or be hemmed up everywhere you go. Oh well, maybe next time. I still don't know what I would have said to her. Maybe, "Tell Tasia I said hi!"...:)...

Ironically, one of the sisters came up to me after church and told me that she'd seen ME on TV last week. Apparently BROOKLYN'S BRIDGE TO JORDAN aired again on Showtime. How funny.

On the agenda for this week is postcarding, and the search for a babysitter should I need one during the week for auditions, shoots, etc.

Nite.

Made it back home last night, just in time for an audition this morning. Wish me luck. I'm really trying to do the dang thang!
